First Day of Training

I woke up at 1am due to jet lag this morning. I was in and out of sleep until about 5am when I decided to get up and start the day. I realized that the thing that was placed on the bed when I came in was a robe and a belt, which I entertained myself with before taking a shower using the flashlight I found to illuminate the room.

Eventually, I figured out that the lights worked perfectly fine and I had just failed to notice that you are supposed to stick the key stick into the light switch in the hallway.

I took advantage of the complimentary breakfast at Denny's, which is next door to the hotel. This was a mistake. I could barely eat any of the food and some of it I didn't know what it was or what to do with it. And there was an egg and what looked like raw bacon that I didn't touch. But the rice was okay because it didn't have a taste and I drank some soup.

After this I ended up walking down the street to locate Heart English School, the company office I will be going to at 9am. I found it and then walked back to the hotel because it was still too early. I guess the main difference that I notice so far, and maybe it is just in this area, but everyone seems to be dressed up. I don't think I saw one person that didn't have a suit on. And no one is overweight it seems.

My first day of training went really well and I was really happy to find out that there is a guy named Will in my training that will be living in the same place as me. He will be working at a different set of schools than I but we will both be working at Junior High Schools and Elementary Schools in Oosaki City. So I won't feel completely isolated. And his hotel room is adjacent to my own. I will be here at this hotel until Monday, when I will follow a coordinator on a trip to Oosaki. This trip will be interesting because it will be my first time driving in Japan and it will be a four hour trip!

Will and I went out to dinner at the Coco Curry House that the trainer recommended. The menus were not in English and we both picked something that looked good. Mine turned out to be crab patties with rice and curry. It was spicy, but very enjoyable. Hopefully tomorrow will be as exciting as today!

  1. Crab patties... sounds like Spongebob to me. You had better start learning some Japanese, words like "teriaki chicken" might be benificial! I find your blog more entertaining than most movies I have watched of late so keep it up, we are all eager to hear about your ... "misadventures".
