Furukawa Tanabata Festival

This week the Tanabata festival was being held in town. I went to stay with some friends for a couple of days and we saw fireworks on Monday night and then went to the festival during the day on Tuesday. It was incredibly hot and humid so we did not stay long during the day. We came back later in the evening and had a great time. We met a girl from New Zealand who was performing and walked around for a while. The next day we went back to the festival and saw some more live music and had some great gyros that were being sold at a food stand. The guys making the gyros came all the way from Osaka. There is also a much larger Tanabata festival held in Sendai that is the biggest in Japan. It starts on Friday. We will be going to Sendai on Friday to catch the bus to Tokyo, so we might end up seeing some of that festival, too.
